We collaborated with the Neurology department at Nordsjællands Hospital and Nordic Health Lab to investigate if our solution could help prevent patient falls and improve the work environment for staff. Spoiler alert: It did! Here are the key takeaways from the report and our mission to support the healthcare sector:

The Solution

Meet Teton One, our intelligent monitoring solution. Equipped with a 360-degree camera and a clever AI, it detects patient movements and activities. Healthcare workers receive alarms and notifications, get useful data on sleep cycles and behavior, and can review and analyze falls. The goal? To make workflows easier for healthcare workers and improve patient care.

Test Period

Our test period spanned nine months, starting with installation and calibration in August and September 2023, staff training in October, and real testing from November 2023 to May 2024. The report is based on 25 interviews, 100 survey responses, and 2 patient interviews. Additionally, it includes data from staff's manual reporting and Teton's database.

Fall Incidents

When it comes to reaction time and preventing falls, the solution was a game changer. Teton One was able to improve reaction time 59% faster. This means our system ensures that staff can respond and enter the room significantly faster. Additionally, the number of falls in patient rooms has dropped by 47% compared to the baseline. This is also shown through our survey data collection, with almost 80% of people saying they've been able to prevent falls using our solution. What's the takeaway? Our solution leads to fewer falls and major improvements in fall prevention - delivering better, safer and quicker care for patients.

“Teton is a great tool for preventing falls and gaining knowledge about specific falls. It helps us to gain better insight, allowing us to make our efforts more targeted to the individual patient.” Physiotherapist at the Department of Neurology

Improving Workflow

From the conducted survey, 94% of staff reported that Teton One supports their workflows. It gives them a better overview of patients faster than before. This has helped optimize patient distribution among staff, allowing nurses to handle more patients and freeing up other healthcare professionals for additional tasks. In short, it’s made resource use more efficient during each shift. In this way, we’re supporting their important work to be more efficient and effective.

Enhancing the Work Environment

In terms of the work environment, the solution has contributed to healthcare professionals having a better overview of patients and their activity. This has meant that there has been a higher sense of calm, increased patient safety, and less stress, which has had a positive impact on the general work environment. It's important to acknowledge that these positive changes are also influenced by some organizational adjustments that have impacted the work environment and structure alongside our test. And let's be clear—we are not just here to support, but to actively partner and collaborate with our healthcare workers. Teton One is here to enhance, not replace.

Summary

When it comes to fall identification and prevention, it can be concluded that the solution significantly supports workflows related to falls and fall prevention. The results show that the Neurology department has achieved a reduction in the number of falls in the wards compared to the one-month baseline. Staff members found they could spend more valuable time with patients without as many interruptions. We are happy to provide a tool for Nordsjællands Hospital to support them in their need of improving the work environment and reducing falls.

So, there you have it. We are always working on improving and extending our solutions, but sometimes it’s nice to stop and celebrate those small… no... BIG achievements.
